There is a race going on to book a new domain names. The idea of registering domain .SECURE has been published recently. It will require fully encrypted https:// sessions.
Plans to launch the .SECURE domain include restrictive regulations which will apply to potential customers. Potential registrants will be required to use SSL certificate and pass rigorous verification process. It would verify the credibility of them, the transparency of their interests, ability to provide the required safety rules and check also all legal documents - including the statutes, marks, patents, co-registrations etc. Registration of the domain would take place after passing the strong authentication (consists two-factors).
.SECURE would be a top-level domain dedicated to banks, financial institutions and any company which needs a high level of security for its activities and credibility.
The success of the domain is based on the fact that all websites with .SECURE addresses will mark high security standards and the user will not have to check security elements (the https:// protocol, integrity or authenticity of the owner). Just a connection with the .SECURE site would give assurance of the security.
The application to ICANN was signed by Artemis company and has gained investments of $9 million. You can find more on DomainPulse.com
