Comodo / Sectigo is changing its Root CAs

Sectigo is changing its Root CAs and its Intermediates
Roots and Intermediates that say “Comodo” need to be replaced as Sectigo is trying to get rid of Comodo branding. As we mentioned above, it’s simply a next phase of its transition. Sectigo will begin using its USERTrust Root CAs, created back in 2000, and newer versions being generated since 2010. Possibly eventually Sectigo will have Sectigo Root CA certificates, but it takes time to get the Root CAs accepted.
What does this mean for you if you have a Comodo-issued SSL?
- If you are a Sectigo customer, no action is required from your side;
- all Sectigo (Comodo)-issued certificates will continue to be trusted globally and will continue to work until expiry.
As Sectigo said in its statement:
We want to assure all customers and partners that this change will happen seamlessly with no action needed. Your existing certificates, issuing CAs, and roots will remain active and trusted. The new Sectigo intermediates will be used to fulfill new requests, renewal requests, and requests that are pending at the time of this transition. Reissuance requests that are handled directly by Sectigo will be fulfilled using the same issuing CA that issued your original certificate.

According to previous announcements, a year after the acquisition of Comodo Group by Francisco Partners, on November 1 Comodo CA announced that from now on it is changing its brand to Sectigo [pronounced. sec-tee-go]. The goal of rebranding is consistency in company communication and better dedication to what Comodo is doing now.
