2010: data leak in 77% companies

Limited user awareness, internet crimes and insecure systems are main problems with data security in companies.

According to the survey of over 2,400 IT security administrators, the most frequently reasons of stealing data are:

  • hacker attacks,
  • insecure mobile equipments,
  • sending e-mails to unknown addresses,
  • file sharing applications,
  • stealing hardware.

The most often stealing data is: private information about customers - 52%, intellectual property companies - 33%, information about employees - 31%, companies plans for the future - 16%.

IT specialists give tips how to provide data security. In reference to them, it is necessary to classify sensitive data (by level of confidentiality), ensure data security at any time (sending, using, archiving) and the emphasis on awareness of users. Without these basic tools the Internet will have week security system in the environment constantly evolving hacking.

The global survey "Understanding Security Complexity in 21st Century IT Environments" prepared Check Point Software Technologies and Ponemon Institute.
